Dance Society

couple2.jpg (11131 bytes)The Vintage Dance Society is dedicated to the reconstruction and preservation of the music and dances of the Victorian and Ragtime eras (circa 1840 to 1925). The society works with theatrical and film production companies, organizations, festivals, museums, etc. to develop theatrical performances (for stage and film), workshops (as an opportunity to learn the dances of these eras) and period social events (as an opportunity to step back in time and enjoy these dances in the setting they originated in). Periodically the society also hosts workshops, formal balls, and informal dances as a chance to meet other vintage dance enthusiasts, to learn new dances, and to hone one's dance skills.

Typical events include Civil War era, 1890s, turn-of-the-century, and Ragtime era balls; Ragtime Teas; Speakeasy's, informal potluck dinner dances; and both weeknight and weekend workshops.

Our most recent events and activities include precepting an 1860s ball, providing costumed actors for a film production, choreographing a dance number for a stage production, and planning a Regency era assembly.
